Neath is a town in the county of Neath Port Talbot. The town is located at the crossing place of the River Neath. The town was initially a market town which expanded into the manufacturing business with the start of the Industrial Revolution. Iron, tinplate and steel manufacturing industries developed in this town with the coming of the Industrial Revolution. The construction of the canals and the railways made this place a good transportation centre. The construction of the new petroleum refinery in the town further widened the scope of the economic increase in this town. The heavy industries have declined and tourism and the other commercial centers have developed in this town.
Rugby, motorcycle speedway, football are some of the games which are immensely popular in this town. South Wales Scorpions is the professional rugby league team of the town. This was formed in the year 2010.
The Neath Port Talbot College is the seat of higher education in the city. This college was earlier known as the Neath College. The college offers pat time and full time courses to the people of this town. Apart from this college, there is no university in the town. There are a number of primary and secondary schools however to cater to the educational needs of the people.
The Neath Bus station and Neath railway station helps in the easier commutation of the people in this town. These are the two primary means of communication available for the people in this town
