Cardiff is the capital of Wales, and its largest city (the tenth largest in the UK). It is located at the mouth of the river Taff on the south coast of Wales. The city is known for being the centre of the National Assembly of Wales, the administrative centre of the country and the city which hosts the majority of Welsh national sporting events. Among others the city has hosted Olympic sporting events, and has twice been the European City of Sport.
There are large housing estates in Cardiff built mainly in the 60s and 70s, but recently there has been more of a focus on high rise buildings especially in the city centre. Cardiff is a cosmopolitan city with a big student population and has great nightlife.
Cardiff accounts for roughly 20% of the Welsh economy and a lot of people commute from the surrounding areas to work in the centre. Zurich, ING Direct and The AA all have large offices in the city.
