One of the fastest developing towns in UK, Telford has about 1,555,000 inhabitants making it the largest town in Shropshire. It is well connected to neighboring areas thanks to the A5/M54 highway links, the presence of three railway stations also ensures good communication to major cities. In 2004 Telford was awarded 'Beacon Status' for its well connected transport system.

In 2007 a £250 million plan was announced that aims to improve the economy of the area by opening cafes, shopping centers and shops so that more and more inhabitants are employed and revenue is generated.
