Plymouth is located at the South West extremity of Devon. It has around 250,000 residents, and is the largest city in the county. The city has ferry links both to Santander in Spain and St Malo and Roscoff in France.
The city’s economy depends a lot on the shipping and defense industries which have traditionally been established here because of Plymouth’s location close to the Atlantic. The city is also the economic centre point for much of Cornwall and Devon and has a growing tertiary industry.
Plymouth is currently expanding fairly quickly in accordance with the Plymouth 2020 plan which set out to build 33,000 new houses and increase the population to 300,000.
The city has some great beaches and spectacular countryside on its doorstep, with Dartmoor just a short drive away.
