Leicester is the county town of Leicestershire in the East Midlands and with a population of over 330,000 is one of the 15 largest urban areas in the UK. Leicester is one of Britain's few pre-Roman settlements which retains its importance in the 21st Century.
Leicester is known nowadays for its multicultural population and its Jamie Vardy party following the local football team overcoming the odds to win the Premier League in 2016. The city is the largest economy in the East Midlands and many companies including multinationals such as British Gas, KMPG and HSBC are either headquartered or have significant offices there.
