Blackpool is a sea-side town in the North Western part of United Kingdom. The town remained a coastal area until the eighteenth century. It is during this time that it became a fashion to travel to this sea side for improving the health of the person by bathing in sea water. Since the eighteenth century, the town gained much prominence among the people. This town became important when a railway track was been laid down in the year 1840 which connected this town to the industrialized areas in the North.

Blackpool is hugely dependent on tourism. In earlier times, the town used to be dependent on the factory workers who used to visit the place during their holidays with their families. Pleasure Beach Blackpool, Blackpool Zoo, Sandcastle Waterpark, Blackpool model village and gardens and many more such places attract the eyes of the tourists. All these places draw a huge number of visitors and help the town in maintaining its economy.

The town boasts of the first generation trams in the country. The tramway which runs from Starr Gate to Fleetwood in Blackpool is among the oldest electric tramways in the world. Bus and coaches, railways and the Blackpool International Airport connects the town to the other parts of the country and also with many destinations in Europe.

Wrestling, football, rugby, cricket, boxing features among the prime sports which are been played by the people in this city. Training institutes are also there to hone the skills of the people.
