Blackburn is a famous old mill town of around 105,000 people. Historically in Lancashire, the town now has its own unitary authority known as Blackburn with Darwen. The town was an important industrial hub during during the industrial revolution and produced much of Britain’s textiles.
Although the town’s economy has not been the same ever since the decline of the manufacturing industry in the twentieth century, Blackburn still has major employers such as BAE systems and Thwaites Brewery. Blackburn is noted for its large Asian population and football team (Blackburn Rovers).
House prices in the town are relatively cheap and the town as an abundance of terraced housing stock. It also has good access to motorways and quick trains to central Manchester Piccadilly.
