Gillingham is one of the most northerly towns located in Dorset, England. With the passage of time, the area of the town has expanded and areas such as Wyke, Bay and Peacemarsh came under this town. At present this town has a total population of 6,200 of which nearly 35% are already retired. With very few inhabitants, the place has been able to retain its scenic beauty and natural heritage to a great extent.

But don’t think that this place is not properly connected to the other parts of London. With good transport links, it is well connected both by the means of trains and cars. If you are travelling by train it will take you an approximate time of 30 minutes to reach London and by road it will take you a little bit more time say, 50 minutes.

With nearly 7 education centers of which 4 are primary and 1 is secondary school, the town provides a fairly balanced education system. AS far as commercialization is concerned, this place has 70 shops. One of the major attractions of the place is the 'Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show', held every year at the month of August on the outskirts of the town.
