Choley like the other towns in England rose to prominence during the Industrial Revolution. The town has a number of cotton mills which was the cause of the prosperity of the town. Today only three cotton mills are still functioning in this town. Mining and the manufacturing of arms and ammunition also became an important occupation of the people.
